Word Wizard terms of use

These terms apply to the Word Wizard app ("the app"), made by William Gill ("we"). By installing or using the app you agree to them. The app store you got the app from has its own terms, which also apply.

The app

Word Wizard is a dictionary, flashcard and word-game app for learning English vocabulary. It works offline. Some optional features can use an AI model through your own OpenAI account; those are subject to OpenAI's terms, and any cost they incur is between you and OpenAI.

Licence to use it

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, as allowed by the app store's rules. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell or redistribute the app or its bundled data except as the open licences below allow.

Content and its licences

The dictionary is derived from the English Wiktionary and is © its contributors under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 licence. Other bundled word lists and data are used under their own open licences, listed in the app under Settings → About → Data sources & licences. Those licences govern that content, not these terms.

Your own words, notes and readings stay yours. We claim no rights in them, and they stay on your device.

Premium and purchases

Some features — the daily personalized crosswords with their AI editorial pass, Word Hunt, the recall games in study sessions, shared friend groups and an ad-free experience — are part of Premium, sold through the App Store or Google Play as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time Founding Member purchase.

Prices are shown in the store's currency before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your store account's subscription settings, at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Refunds are handled by the store under its rules.

The Founding Member purchase is a one-time payment for lifetime Premium. "Lifetime" means Premium access for as long as the current app and its online service continue to operate; it is not a promise that the company, the service or every feature will exist forever. It is tied to your store account and, once linked, your app account, is non-transferable, and is subject to reasonable fair-use limits on server-generated content. It covers the Premium features described in the app and their ordinary improvements, not necessarily a separate future product or a materially different paid service. Founding Member places are limited to 500 completed purchases.

If Premium ends, your words, progress and any shared-group data are kept; only the Premium features stop until you subscribe again.

Groups

Group puzzles let you pool words with people you invite. Choose a name for yourself that isn't offensive or impersonating anyone, and share invite codes only with people you're happy to see your shared words. Group owners may remove members; we may remove groups or members that misuse the feature. Leaving a group removes your shared words; deleting a group removes it for everyone.

Feedback

If you send a bug report or suggestion, you allow us to use it to improve the app, without any obligation to you.

What we don't promise

The app is provided as is. A dictionary compiled from open data will contain mistakes; puzzles are generated automatically and may occasionally be imperfect; AI-written hints and clues can be wrong. We don't guarantee the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from its use. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by agreement.

Changes and ending

We may update the app and these terms; a changed version will be shown in the app or on the listing. You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. We may stop providing the app or any feature of it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where we are established [fill in: province/state and country], and disputes go to the courts there, except where consumer law gives you the right to your own courts.
